My Role!

Seeing as our roles within the group have been decided it was my task to research "Games that have evolved into Films".

With gaming being such a massive industry then it has to be expected that some popular games will have evolved into films via demand from either fans or film studios. Some game to film examples are as followed;

Resident Evil (2002) -

Resident Evil is a game by Capcom that was released in 1996 on the Sony PlayStation 1. It gained widespread popularity and went on to spawn more than 10 sequels and become a fan favourite around the world.

By 2002 (the time of the films release) 5 of the main series games had been released.

Resident Evil
Resident Evil 2
Resident Evil 3: Nemesis
Resident Evil: Code Veronica
Resident Evil Zero

It was safe to say that because of the games popularity then the film had a lot of hype leading up to it. Commercially it was a box office success with it having a budget of $33 million and a box office total of $103 million. On the other hand it received negative reviews from both the public and critics with Rotten Tomatoes giving it a 34% rating out of a possible 100.

Like the games the film also went on to have many sequels with there currently being 5 in total as it stands today;

Resident Evil
Resident Evil: Apocalypse
Resident Evil: Extinction
Resident Evil: Afterlife
Resident Evil: Retribution

All the films have been a success commercially with each one almost tripling their budgets but all of them have received mainly negative reviews. The case with the Resident Evil films is that as long as they keep doing well financially then they will keep making them no matter what the response. It would mainly be fans of the games that would be the audience of the films.
